Another Library Fine

You are never going to believe this. Maybe you will, given my past history. I paid a $55 library fine today. Let me tell you, it hurt. I really wanted to blame somebody. I tried to find a way to blame poor old Joe, but it simply wasn’t his fault. I wanted to blame a vacation (we did go to Old Grandma’s) or my job, but I really couldn’t. The bottom line is that I looked at our library basket (filled with thirty-five or so books) every day and made the conscious choice to not take them back to the … Read more

I am a Strong Mom

I am happy to announce that I am a Similac StrongMom Ambassador. I’m excited to represent the StrongMom app because it was exactly what we needed when we struggled with Allie’s growth during those early days. She didn’t gain weight at all for her first three weeks. It was a scary, exhausting, awful time – but I didn’t have to worry about writing down feedings or carrying around a notebook. I had Similac’s Strong Mom app. The app allowed me to enter my breastfeeding sessions, my bottle-feeding sessions, Allie’s wet and dirty diapers, and even the time she spent sleeping. … Read more

10 Weeks Old

Allie is 10 weeks old now. Her hair is still red and her eyes are still blue. I still feel like I’m hanging on by a thread here. Not in the I’m about to go crazy sense. More like the How am I supposed to accomplish anything? sense. I honestly don’t know how anyone manages more than two babies. But she sure is cute. And she’s starting to smile a lot. And sit up. Oh my. All that action tuckers her out pretty quickly. Our days are just packed.   Happily submitted to Wordful Wednesday,  Go Graham Go, Newlyweds!, Better … Read more

An Impossible Choice

Allison is in the hospital. She has RSV. She is congested and struggling to breathe, needing oxygen, breathing treatments, medicine, and lots of love. She cries a lot because she isn’t allowed to eat (too much mucus), and she is most uncomfortable. Allie needs her momma. Grace is at home. Grace’s baby sister, the one she waited for for so long, is very sick. Her sister is in the hospital, and she isn’t allowed to visit. Grace has a bad cold (probably caused by RSV), so she’s a little more tired, a little more whiny, and a little less patient … Read more

The Difference a Month Makes

January 15 Allison was 3.5 weeks old, and still 6 ounces below her birth weight. February 15 Today, Allison is 7 weeks old. She is growing quickly, but I’m not sure exactly what she weighs. I’m guessing she’s at least 3 pounds above her birth weight, but she may be more than that. She’s definitely substantial. And so very cute. Especially on days like today, when she actually took substantial naps throughout the day. When Breast Isn’t Best

I wanted – desperately – to breastfeed both of my children. Grace never latched on to my breast. Though I tried just after she was born, she refused. She would occassionally open her mouth for my breast, but wouldn’t suck. I’ve talked about Grace’s refusal to latch before. She never successfully breastfed. I didn’t know what else to do, so when the pediatrician and lactation consultant told me to give her formula, I did. Though I deeply regretted my failure to breastfeed Grace, I came to appreciate the formula. Formula made my baby gain weight. She quickly became healthy and … Read more
