Another Library Fine

You are never going to believe this. Maybe you will, given my past history. I paid a $55 library fine today. Let me tell you, it hurt. I really wanted to blame somebody. I tried to find a way to blame poor old Joe, but it simply wasn’t his fault. I wanted to blame a vacation (we did go to Old Grandma’s) or my job, but I really couldn’t. The bottom line is that I looked at our library basket (filled with thirty-five or so books) every day and made the conscious choice to not take them back to the … Read more

A Big Announcement (For Me, Anyway)

I’ve been meaning to write this post since March 8. March 8th is when I submitted a letter to my employer, explaining that I would not return to work after my maternity leave ended. This Friday, I will officially be an at-home mom. When Grace was born, I cried every time I thought about going back to work. I sobbed for hours my first day back. At the same time, we’ve held on to incandescent light bulbs and traditional soap products. Being green doesn’t have to be all … Read more

Caring for Our Sensitive Skin with Aquaphor

Our Skin Issues I have sensitive skin. I also have chronic hives, so my skin is often itchy. Scratching my skin leads quickly to itchy welts, a combination of eczema and hives. When I get a rash, I put hydrocortisone cream on it, followed by Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Grace’s skin is exceptionally sensitive. When she was just six months old, she was diagnosed with eczema, and she’s seen a pediatric dermatologist since. Despite our best efforts, she has, over the years, had many flare-ups requiring treatment. Our first intervention when a red spot shows up? Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Most of … Read more
