What you'll need to make Cheesy Garlic Bread

    Equipment

    • Baking sheet - enough space to bake two French bread loaves evenly
    • Aluminum foil - optional, but makes cleanup easier
    • 2 wooden spoons - These are held on the sides of the French loaf, so that you don't accidentally slice too far down into the bread.

    Ingredients

Ingredients to make cheesy bread: french bread, butter, cajun seasoning, dried parsley, and parmesan cheesePin

See the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page for all measurements and nutritional information.

    • French baguette, either 1 large or 2 small loaves
    • butter - It doesn't matter whether you use salted or unsalted butter. It should be room temperature and soft, but it works best if it's not fully melted.
    • garlic powder - If you like the flavor of fresh garlic, feel free to substitute.
    • Cajun seasoning - see link for a homemade recipe or buy Cajun or Creole seasoning at the store.
    • dried parsley - This adds a fresh note to the bread.
    • Parmesan cheese, shredded, not grated. You don't want the powdery stuff; you want actual slivers of cheese.

How to make pull-apart garlic bread

    1. Preheat oven to 375ºF. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
    2. Place the wooden spoons on either side of the baguette and cut the baguette into slices. The spoons should prevent you from cutting all the way through the bottom of the loaf.Cutting the french bread to add the butter mixturePin

    6. Place bread on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the loaves are golden.

For easier clean up, use aluminum foil to line the sheet pan before cooking.

It is easier to keep the loaf intact for cooking, but if you accidentally cut all of the way through the loaf when slicing in step 2, just press the pieces back together on the sheet pan for cooking.

    Substitutions & variations

Cajun seasoning is optional, and the amount can be changed to add more or less spice if desired. Or replace it with taco seasoning, fajita seasoning, or ranch dressing mix. Or leave the seasonings out altogether and just add extra garlic.

Showing the middle of the cheesy garlic bread, showing the melted cheesePin

You may want to add or replace the Parmesan cheese; you can use Saganò, Pecorino, Romano, Grana Padano, or a shredded Italian blend. Or, go for a melty pizza feel and use shredded mozzarella.

If you'd like to add more spice, you can add chili paste or diced jalapenos to the butter mixture.

    Storing leftovers

Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container or foil and will last about 4 days on the counter.

Freezer: wrap bread slices individually in plastic wrap, then place into a freezer-safe bag or container. Label and freeze. It keeps well for 1-2 months.
