These Christmas Tree deviled eggs are the perfect December twist to your classic appetizer spread.
These bite-sized egg appetizers are incredibly easy to prepare. This recipe is as easy as boiling, peeling, and mixing the filling and piping it into the egg whites.

These deviled eggs use common, simple ingredients. This recipe has only a few common ingredients that can be found at virtually all grocery stores. The piping bag and piping tip can easily be found on Amazon.
These Christmas tree deviled eggs are simply beautiful to look at and make a festive addition to any holiday party or family meal. The avocado complements the creamy richness of the egg yolk and mayo, enhanced by a touch of fresh lemon juice for an out-of-this-world flavor combination. Add in the creaminess of the boiled egg whites, and you have a combination that your guests will love!
What you'll need to make Christmas deviled eggs
Equipment
- Citrus juicer - I use a lot of fresh lemon and fresh lime juice, so my citrus press is on heavy rotation. If you don't have a citrus press and don't want to get one, you can squeeze your lemon with a fork. Look on YouTube for "how to juice a lemon with a fork" and you'll find some good instructions. Or, as a last resort, squeeze it with your hand, but you may want to use both halves if you do that, because you won't get all the juice out.
- Piping bags - This is where the magic happens. Adding the avocado mixture to a pastry bag helps create these adorable Christmas trees. And, clean up is simple!
- Large open star tip (Wilton 1M) or Ateco 828 - This is the exact size and shape decorative tip that you need to create the perfect Christmas tree effect.
- Star-shaped cookie cutter - This is needed to create the star that goes on top of your Christmas tree eggs. You will notice that we didn't have a cookie cutter small enough when we took the photos, and the stars look okay but not great. If you have a tiny star cookie cutter, they'll be way better! (You need 1-inch or smaller.)
Ingredients
- Large eggs - You will need to hard boil your eggs. My preferred method is using the 5-5-5 method in the Instant Pot (pressure cooker instructions here), but you can also use boiling water on the stove top (here are those instructions) or even your air fryer (instructions here). It is easier to peel week-old eggs than fresh eggs, if you have the option.
- Mayonnaise - I normally make my deviled eggs with Miracle Whip rather than mayonnaise, but in this case, you're going to add lemon juice to the filling, and if you also use Miracle Whip, it will be too much tart and tangy.
- Dijon mustard - You could also use plain yellow mustard or spicy brown mustard, but I prefer Dijon in this recipe.
- Lemon juice - Fresh squeezed is always best.
- Avocado - This is what is going to make your Christmas Tree deviled eggs look green! If you want them to be even greener, you can use green food dye, but I was trying to go for all natural here.
- Salt & pepper to taste - Add these at the end, if you think they are needed.
- Crushed red pepper flakes - These make pretty decorations on your trees. If you don't want to add heat, you could cut tiny bits from a red bell pepper and push those into the egg yolk mixture to look like ornaments.
- Yellow bell pepper - This is what will make the stars on your Christmas trees.
How to make Christmas deviled eggs ideas

See the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page for all measurements and nutritional information.
- Hard-cook eggs according to your preferred method. (See my Instant Pot, stove top, and air fryer hard boiled egg instructions.)

- When the eggs have cooled enough to handle, peel them carefully and slice them into egg halves.

- Scoop the egg yolks into a mixing bowl and mash them with mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, and avocado until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If you want your trees to be brighter green, add some gel food coloring now. (Liquid food color will make your yolk mixture runny.)

- Fill a piping bag with the egg yolk mixture.
- Pipe the egg mixture back into the egg whites, creating a tall swirl to resemble a tree shape. Sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes over the filling, or place tiny red pepper pieces or pomegranate seeds in the filling as ornaments.

- Use a 1-inch star-shaped cookie cutter to cut 12 stars from the yellow bell pepper. Place a star at the top of each egg tree.

Substitutions & variations
Swap the avocado with pureed spinach or kale, or pesto, or use premade guacamole.
Garnish with tiny sprigs of parsley or rosemary. Or use sesame seeds for a "snowy" look.

Storing leftovers
Christmas tree deviled eggs are best eaten when fresh. Because they are made with avocado, they are going to turn brown after sitting for a few hours. They are perfectly fine to eat when brown, but they do not look appetizing at all, and you may be hesitant to put them in your mouth.
- Refrigerate: Store leftover trees in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Place a sheet of plastic wrap gently over the tops to keep garnishes intact.
- Avoid freezing: This is not recommended, as neither eggs nor avocados thaw well.
