My husband is a notoriously bad gift giver. I mean, he is earnest and sweet and kind, but he does not have a knack for picking out knock your socks off gifts.
One year, he gave me a pair of scissors because he’d lost mine. Another year, he gave me a picture frame to replace one he’d broken. He just reminded me of the time when he gave me a box of pens because I was always complaining that I didn’t have one.
Often, he wraps up packages of candy (not so well received when I’m trying to lose weight).
He is so thoughtful and well-meaning, but the gifts always have a way of coming out sideways.
I try so hard to make sure every gift for every person in the family is absolutely perfect, so it has been a huge disappointment to get wonky gifts from my husband. For several years, I dreaded Christmas morning.
And then I hit on something big.
Two things, actually.
The first thing is that it doesn’t matter what Joe gives me. He is thinking about me, and he is trying hard, and I can now say I’m truly happy with whatever he gives me. The actual present inside the box is not the point of Christmas.
The point is love and contentment, being together and being thankful for the real gift (that would be Jesus).
The second thing is that I started giving him a list. It may sound greedy of me, but he really appreciates getting a list. It takes the stress out of gift giving for him. (He told me that!)
I try to put a few different things from a few different categories on my list, and he picks and chooses and we both come out smiling.
Here are a few things from Zales.com that caught my eye this Christmas:
The Zales Ever Us collection is made up of gorgeous rings, each featuring two bright diamonds. The idea is one diamond is for your sweetheart and one is for your best friend.
I was thinking that it would be one for me and one for my sweetheart because we’re a pair for all time. It’s a sweet idea either way. There are other styles, but I really love this one with the rose gold.
The Zales Endless Brilliance collection is made up of diamond rings, necklaces, and earrings, loaded with sparkle.
If Joe got me something from the Endless Brilliance collection, I hope it would be this ring. I gained weight after my mom died, and my wedding ring doesn’t fit any more. I have a tiny white gold band that I wear, but a new ring dripping with diamonds would make my year!
The innovative Zales Unstoppable Love collection features shimmering diamonds and gemstones in a unique movable setting. The pieces in this collection are varied and all beautiful. I found a lot of things here that I loved!
With more than 90 years as a leading brand name in jewelry, Zales offers a broad selection of classic and contemporary designs and the perfect piece for any sense of style. Check out Zales.com for even more amazing pieces to give or receive this holiday season!
