Is that song playing in your head now? It is playing in mine.
Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.
A couple of years ago, I read The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson. It's an excellent book and, if you haven't yet read it, I highly recommend it.
In that book, Batterson suggests that you circle the promises of God in your Bible, partly to help yourself remember them and partly so that you can go back and pray over them later on. (Praying the words of the Bible is a topic for another blog post, so stay with me on the promises part.)
I started circling the promises immediately upon reading The Circle Maker. It made so much sense to me and brought me such a sense of peace and hope. I can trust these promises because God doesn't promise anything idly, and He always keeps His promises.
My study Bible is now filled with circles as I have read and claimed all these promises, promises for salvation and for blessings and for hope and for a bright future and for glory in heaven. Promises for all-consuming love and grace and mercy and forgiveness. Promises for eternal life with Him and a heavenly inheritance beyond my imagination.
These promises bring me comfort – when I let them which is not all the time. You see, we have to believe the promises and trust in them. We have to internalize them and let them become part of us. We can't just read them and commit them to head knowledge or they will not do us any good.
It's not easy to trust God's Word through job loss or hospitalization or the death of a beloved family member. It's not easy to trust Him when you can't pay your bills or when you are wounded by someone you thought cared about you.
I remember distinctly a crisis of faith I had when our car broke down a couple of years ago. We needed a new engine to the tune of $6,000 – and then it looked like our transmission was going out, too, and that was going to cost at least $3,000 more. It took everything we had plus a loan from a family member to replace the engine, and there was nothing left for the transmission.
At the time, my husband kept saying "It will work out, Tara. Don't worry about it." But all I could do was worry.
I didn't believe that God cared enough about us to orchestrate our finances and make it all work. I didn't have faith that He would take care of the itty bitty details of our life.
In the midst of the car angst, we went to a small group meeting at our church, and they prayed over our car and finances. On the way home from that meeting, our check engine light came on and the car totally failed on the side of the road.
Thanks to that failure, the garage was able to figure out the problem with the new engine – a cracked spark plug. It cost less than $20 to fix, and the whole repair was covered under the warranty of the original engine work. We didn't have to pay a cent.
It turned out that God was working in the itty bitty details after all.
I now believe that the whole situation was designed to test and grow my faith. He wanted me to see that He is involved intimately in my life and that I can trust Him fully with all the details. There is nothing too big or too small for Him.
So with this in mind, I bring you 70 promises of God that you should know and understand deep in your soul. You can trust Him with your deepest longings and your hope; these promises will never be broken.
Never ever ever.
They are true now and will be true for all eternity.
Don't take my word for it. Look to 2 Corinthians 1:20:
For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.
And to Romans 4:21:
[Abraham] was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.
And to Hebrews 10:23:
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
And to Galations 3:29:
Since you are in Christ, I have made you an heir of all My promises.
70 Promises From the Bible That You Can Count On God to Deliver
Emphasis added in the scriptures below.
The first one is the foundational scripture of all Christian faith: anyone who believes in Jesus will not die but will live forever with Him in heaven.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. John 3:16-18
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. Ephesians 1:5
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17
And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, through his flesh, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:19-22
You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed or he stripped off. the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. Colossians 2:13-15
"Oh, what joy for those
whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sins are put out of sight.
Yes, what joy for those
whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.” Romans 4:7-8
And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. Romans 8:10
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, or to become sin itself, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:21
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:1-2
But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13
Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. Hebrews 2:14-15
God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake. 1 Peter 1:20
Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace. Romans 6:14
For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. Romans 8:38
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 1 Peter 1:3-4
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17
So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. 2 Corinthians 3:18
Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Romans 8:33-34
But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. Romans 4:5
For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10
"Once you had no identity as a people;
now you are God’s people.
Once you received no mercy;
now you have received God’s mercy." 1 Peter 2:10

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom with his blood and forgave our sins. Colossians 1:13-14
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. Romans 5:8
For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. Romans 5:9-11
Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. Jude 1:24
Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 1 John 4:18

and I will rescue you,
and you will give me glory. Psalm 50:15

They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
This next one is a tricky one. I don't subscribe to the "name it and claim it" doctrine that makes people believe that God will give them anything they want. It still has to be in His will and His plan. But it does say in the Bible that He will give you your heart's desires. This is definitely a verse for further study.
Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you your heart’s desires. Psalm 37:4
Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him, and he will help you. Psalm 37:5
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

These are the 70 (actually 74, but 70 sounded better) promises that I pulled out of the Bible to share with you. There are hundreds, possibly thousands more in the words of the Bible.
Every time I read (which is most every morning these days), I find new promises. I do my daily readings on Kindle (in this chronological One Year Bible) these days, so I don't actually get out a pen and circle the promises now, and I miss doing that. For that reason, I still do my in-depth Bible study in my Life Application Study Bible with all its writing and circles and messes (but not my Bible journaling; I have a whole separate Bible for that too).
Paying careful attention to God's promises will help you to see His hands at work in your daily life, in everything you do and every situation you enter. It will help you to be grateful for her mercies and contribution to your days. I invite you to share below your favorite of God's promises and what you're thankful for today.
Get these Biblical promises in a convenient black and white printable below. You can work on memorizing and meditating on them, one at a time.
If you need help with a system for memorizing verses, check out this post on our family's memorization habit.
