He knows what you need before you do

I heard something in church more than a month ago that I keep coming back to again and again. Today was one of those days.

God knows what you need before you do.

This morning, I got up late. The baby was extra clingy. I got an email from a dear friend who is really struggling with being a working mom. I'm dealing with all kinds of complicated emotions about being a working mom myself. I'm feeling totally overwhelmed with the new school year, my blogging and writing commitments, and my family. It's hard to find a balance.

It's all flying around in my head. We got out the door late. I wasn't feeling good about the second day of school. I knew I was going to be later than I wanted for work.

I stopped at the intersection nearest my house, looked up, and saw a giant rainbow. It instantly brightened my day. I felt like He was saying, “Give yourself a break, kiddo. Everything is fine.”

He knows what you need before you do.

Every time I stopped, that rainbow was big and bright and right in front of me.

When we arrived at day care, Grace's teacher told me that she's wonderful all day. Her exact quote was, “This would be an easy job if they were all like Grace. She's so confident and independent.”

Are you kidding me? I'm doing a good job? For real?

Even though I was running late, I stayed and talked with her about Attachment Parenting. We don't follow it to the letter, but overall, it's been a good fit for us. It's just feels right to me. I hold Grace as much as she wants, and I give her all of the love and attention that she can handle, but I do I worry about her being too attached.

I guess she's not.

He knows what you need before you do.

When I got back in my car and drove the last five minutes to work, my rainbow was still in the sky, but fading. My spirits, however, were soaring high, as bright as the colors had been.

It's going to be a good day after all.

  3. Tara-
Thanks for that blog. Everyday is struggle for me, questioning myself as mom and the decisions I make. Thanks for letting me know that we all have that rainbow. I now have a new positive spin on the chaos that is my life. Everything will be okay, because he does know what I need before I do.

  5. Wonderful thoughts, Tara! I love it that God sends us reminders of how much He loves us and cares for us. He is not a distant God who doesn’t care. He DOES care about us individually. I love that!

And those confirmations that you’re doing a good job as a mom – those are priceless gifts. Good for you!

  7. Great post. I couldn’t agree more! We all have those days and isn’t it funny how he can remind us to slow down and take it in?!
