50 Bible verses every Christian should memorize - These Bible Verses are great for women, men, teens, or kids to learn. The truths of the Word of God apply to everyone's life and heart. Many words spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ to children and adults. The Word of the Lord is good and beneficial. Great products and quotes for families to post in their home on the wall.
I came to the church as an adult, and part of my journey as a Christian has been to memorize Bible verses.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. -Psalm 119:11
Hiding God's Word in my heart is not only a Biblical concept, it is a great comfort to me. When things happen (and they always do, right?), often a Bible verse I've memorized pops into my head. I don't always remember the location (Google to the rescue), but the words bring me peace and solace in those times. I can rest assured that I'm living and working in God's will because His words are guiding me along the way.
If you focus on one of these verses every week, and you really learn it, you will know them all within one year. Isn't that inspiring?
You can do it. I know you can.
Here are the short Bible verses that I think every Christian should know. I use several Bible translations for my study. Many of the verses are quoted from the NIV, but there are a few NLT and a few ESV mixed in.
Verses on Salvation
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. -John 3:16-17

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrong. By popular demand, I have created a printable of the above list. Click below to save and print the 50 encouraging Bible verses I've chosen. Use it as a guide to memorize them, one at a time.
It's not on the printable, but I think a 51st Bible passage that everyone should memorize is the 23rd Psalm. It's longer than the others but has brought me comfort in many difficult times in my life. Here is the text in the version I know best (NKJV):
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Amen. - Psalm 23
And finally, another passage that everyone should memorize is the Lord's Prayer from Matthew 6:9-13:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our transgressions, as we forgive those who transgress against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
The God of hope wants to bring you comfort through the power of the Holy Spirit, and the best way for him to affect your heart is if His Word is already in there. The best way to get them into your heart? Memorizing them.
Make sure you continue to work on the ones you've already learned even while you're learning new ones. It takes a bit of review and repetition to keep them fresh in your mind.

By reading and memorizing. Great verses. Thanks. I'm reading them 10x each. Saying them 10x and writing them 2x.

Thank you so much for the verses! I am going through on of the hardest/ trying periods of my life. This is not the first period and will not be the last. I have always considered myself a Christian but have not gone to church in years consistently. Every time I go to church I cry because the Lord speaks to me through the music and sermon every time. My point with this is that the Lord always seeks us when we need him most. You shared some motivational verses that apply in my life as I am typing this and it means more than words can explain. I am making it my goal, as I am a goal oriented person, to study the Bible and reorient myself with the messages it provides to live by and connect with the Lord. You have provided a great many that I am going to start my inspirational board with as I want to be surrounded by his words, during this period in particular.

Which translation did you use to pull these verses? I'm trying to make sure I get them right!
Tara Ziegmont says
I don't use just one translation. I tend to jump around between NLT, NIV, and ESV. In later blog posts, I have identified which is from which translation, but unfortunately didn't do that for this list.

Thank you for this list. It is great. The download button is not working though.

God bless you! Thank you so much for sharing these memory verses. One of my favorites, that would probably go under the God's Promises category, is Isaiah 43:1-2.
I love your blog. It's a great resource.
Kevin says
No matter what translation of the Bible you have, its what God puts in your heart to read..
But if you want easy translation go for NIV, NLT, or something close to that order it's his word that opens the eyes of the believer

Thank you Tata for this post! I am going through a tough time in my life, I just turned 37 yesterday and every emotion stirs up on my birthday because I don't have my parents anymore. My father passed away in 2014 and I struggled and struggled for years to process his death. I was a daddys girl lol...but I had my mother still so we leaned on each other so much. Well I lost her 2 years ago in2018 and I have been an absolute mess without her now. I can't seem to wrap my head around my losses still. I am an only child with no aunts or uncles or cousins either so this has been extremely difficult for me. I seemed to have lost my faith along the way and want it back so so much! I know they both would want me to move on with my life and be happy and be grateful for what I do have, my children, my husband...but I'm always struggling every day because of how much I miss and need them too!!! We were extremely close..she was my absolute best friend and the feeling is just killing me inside. Anyways, thank you for this because I needed to read each and everyone! It truly helped me...and will continue to do so. Thank you!! God bless! ♡Christina Phillips ♡
