This spicy homemade hummus blends chickpeas, garlic, onion, lemon juice, and olive oil with spices including cayenne pepper for a creamy dip with real heat and no tahini needed. It comes together in minutes and is naturally healthy, gluten free, and vegan.
Place chickpeas in a saucepan, cover with water, and simmer for 10 minutes to soften skins. Drain.
Drain the chickpeas and then add them to a blender or food processor. Add remaining ingredients to the blender or food processor and blend for 1-2 minutes until completely smooth. Add a splash of cooking water if needed to make the hummus light and fluffy.
Taste and adjust salt, lemon, or spices, as needed.
Spoon into a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and serve.
Notes
