Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease a 9x13 baking dish with butter-flavored cooking spray or melted butter.
Spread the crushed pineapple with its juices into the bottom of the baking pan.
Spread the cherry pie filling across the top of the crushed pineapple layer.
Add the dry cake mix evenly across the top of the cherry pie filling.
Lay the 24 pats of butter in a gride on top of the dry cake mix.
