Green Beans with Caramelized Onions


  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 pounds onion - if using large onions, chop them coarsely. Pearl onions work nicely, whole or cut in half.
  • 1 pound green beans
  • 1 tablespoons dill chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper freshly ground


  • Heat oil and sugar together in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and saute until tender and golden brown, stirring often, about 10 minutes.
  • Add green beans until crisp-tender, stirring frequently, about 3 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in dill, salt, and pepper.
  • Serve immediately


*A note about dill - Stirring the fresh dill in after cooking preserves its flavor. Heating decreases the flavor of the dill.
