Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chuck or chopped steak
  • ¼ cup cornmeal
  • ½ cup salsa drained (discard the liquid - It will make your burgers too moist, and then they will fall apart on the grill. We learned this the hard way. If your burger mixture seems too wet, put down aluminum foil on the grill grates before you grill the burgers. That will prevent your supper from falling down through the grates.)
  • ¼ cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro coarsely snipped
  • 2 cloves garlic pressed
  • ¼ teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 dash black pepper

Instructions

  • These instructions are really complicated. Try to follow along. I'll go slowly.
  • Mix everything together.
  • Form patties.
  • Pre-heat the grill on high. Cook burgers for 6 minutes on each side or until your desired level of doneness.

Notes

We like to sauté some sliced onions in olive oil or butter, toss them in a tablespoon or two of fajita seasoning, and top the burgers with them. We don't do that every time, but often enough to mention.
