It has been almost two months since my last bariatric surgery update, so I wanted to pop on and let you know how it’s going. So many of you have written with kind words and encouragement and asking how it’s going. I am truly honored by your emails and comments! In short, it is going great! 19 Days Post Bariatric Gastric Sleeve Surgery

19 days after bariatric surgery - gastric sleeve surgery results - People have been asking how I'm doing and how the surgery went, so here is my real life description of the process so far.

I am now 19 days past my bariatric gastric sleeve surgery, and physically, I am awesome. I have lost 32 pounds so far. I don’t have any pain, and I have more energy than in recent months. I’m not tired except at bedtime, and I am able to go for walks with the girls at lunchtime every day. I have had to retire some of my loose shirts because I am swimming in them. Why I Have Decided to Have Bariatric Surgery – Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Last summer, I had my annual physical. My family doctor walked in the room and said, “Tara, have you ever considered bariatric surgery?” I was stunned. So I had written off all bariatric surgeries on the basis of that one. But my doctor had some … Read more

A New Kind of Healthcare Experience with American Well

Last week, I had met with a nutritionist about my weight loss goals – from the comfort of my favorite chair in the living room. She went over my daily eating habits with me, gave suggestions, and answered all my questions, and it all happened over the internet thanks to American Well. Take a look at how the process works: American Well has doctors and other health professionals available 24/7. I was able to find a nutritionist after dinner last Thursday. There were several doctors available at the same time (but I wanted specifically to speak with a nutritionist). When you … Read more

Forward Progress

Today is the last day of the first week of the #iHeartOmron Fitness Challenge. Are you ready for a little whining? I need to whine. My entire body hurts. There is not a muscle group in my body that feels good. They are all sore and tired. Most of my joints ache and are stiff. I would rather lie in bed than get up and go about my business. Frankly, I think there might be a tinge of depression at work here, but there’s also a lot of (over)exertion. I’m not sure if my pain is related to working out … Read more

You Have to Keep Climbing (Thoughts on Living Healthy)

Healthy living isn’t about knowledge. Can we agree on that point? Eat the rainbow every week. Sweat every day, preferably for 30 minutes or longer. Avoid artificial foods. All foods in moderation. Raise your hand if you already knew all that. Of course you did. The problem isn’t that we’re unaware of how to eat live. The problem is that we’re numb and scared. When your brain is numb, you walk the well-worn path that brought you to where ever you are. You think about the pleasure of the food. You do what you’ve always done. You eat what you’ve … Read more
