6 Tips to Make Grocery Shopping with Children a More Pleasant Experience

Joe almost always does our grocery shopping. I love to shop. What? Are you thinking that those two sentences don’t work together? Well, yes they do. I love to shop for anything. Healthy food, candy, greeting cards, paper products, potted plants, household items… my love for spending our hard-earned money never ends. So I avoid the grocery store just like I avoid all the other stores because our budget can’t handle my even entering the premises. My money-saving strategy is to send Joe to the grocery store because he is capable of walking in with his list and walking back out … Read more

If You Take a Mom to Target

If you take a mom to Target - This funny article had me laughing. Hilarious and so true. This mom is seeing right into my life!

I wrote this post in September 2010, when I was six months pregnant with Allie. It still makes me laugh, so I wanted to give it a rerun. If you take a Mom to Target, she’s going to want a cart to put her purse in. If she gets a cart, she’s going to want to peruse the dollar bins. If she peruses the dollar bins, she’s going to find a toy that reminds her to buy a birthday gift for a 3-year-old she knows. If she remembers that she needs a birthday gift, she’s going to want to … Read more

Tooth Brushing With a Preschooler

I am delighted to be one of twenty bloggers featured in Arm & Hammer’s Switch & Save Challenge. During the next five months, I’ll be testing several Arm & Hammer products and sharing my experiences with you. A few weeks ago, Grace decided that she was scared of brushing her teeth. I’m pretty sure that I’m scared of brushing my teeth! is a euphemism for I don’t want to, and you can’t make me! but I could be wrong. I’m not, but I could be. It doesn’t matter, really. The result is the same. She doesn’t want to brush her … Read more

8 Ways to Make Your Home More Comfortable for Your Husband

honoring the man they call daddy

This week’s Honoring the Man They Call Daddy theme is setting the stage. What can we do to make our homes more welcoming and more comfortable for our husbands? I wasn’t sure where to start, so I asked Joe what that would look like. “Uh, I dunno,” he answered. Not satisfied with that answer, I pressed, and he said, “I don’t really need too much. A little pampering, maybe. A foot massage.” Here’s what else he said (plus a few things I added in on his behalf). Greet him with a smile and a smooch when he walks in the … Read more

What is This Mystery Flower?

If you’ve been reading my little mom blog for a while, you probably know that I garden. A lot. I have an extensive flower garden, and Joe and I have five separate vegetable beds. I know plants well. Last week, when I was transplanting some shasta daisies that sprung up in the grass, I found these white flowers. Here’s what I know: I live in zone 6b. I did not plant this little beauty, and I have lived in this house for 11 years. It either grew from a seed or a critter brought in a bulb from elsewhere. The … Read more

Another Library Fine

You are never going to believe this. Maybe you will, given my past history. I paid a $55 library fine today. Let me tell you, it hurt. I really wanted to blame somebody. I tried to find a way to blame poor old Joe, but it simply wasn’t his fault. I wanted to blame a vacation (we did go to Old Grandma’s) or my job, but I really couldn’t. The bottom line is that I looked at our library basket (filled with thirty-five or so books) every day and made the conscious choice to not take them back to the … Read more
