Playing Outside with My Girls

Every day last week saw high temperatures in the mid-seventies. Considering the lousy weather we’ve had in April and May, that is positively splendid. This is what being an at-home mom is all about. I get some work done while Allie naps and Grace plays, then we all go outside together. Outside is all about running and playing and laughing for Gracie. For Allie, it’s about watching and learning. And, of course, chewing since those teeth still haven’t broken through. For me, it’s about pulling weeds and planting flowers and enjoying the beauty of my yard and my garden and … Read more

A Big Announcement (For Me, Anyway)

I’ve been meaning to write this post since March 8. March 8th is when I submitted a letter to my employer, explaining that I would not return to work after my maternity leave ended. This Friday, I will officially be an at-home mom. When Grace was born, I cried every time I thought about going back to work. I sobbed for hours my first day back. For 4 years, I’ve felt incredibly guilty about leaving Grace at daycare so that I could teach other peoples’ kids. When Allie was born, I told Joe that I could not go back. It … Read more

Comparing My Girls

Allie is quickly growing in a person. She has likes and dislikes. She interacts with us more and more, and she has discovered some of her toys. I took this picture one evening last week, and I marveled at her big eyes. They’re almost always open and looking. She’s an observer, that kid. I would love it if she learned to be a napper, but that doesn’t seem to be in her constitution. I remembered a photo I took of Grace around the same time, and I went looking for it. Being an overly anxious first time mother, I was … Read more

What Makes Your Mom Awesome

I asked Grace and Allie to answer this question on video, “What Makes Your Momma Awesome?” Here’s what they had to say – My favorite answer? She talks to me nice. Is it any wonder that I want to spend my time with these little people? I am the happiest mom on the planet. This post is sponsored by Tiny Prints and Global Influence. Tiny Prints offer Mothers Day greeting cards for all sorts of moms – mom friends, moms, mothers-in-law… Whether you want to tell her she’s doing a great job as a mom or thank her for being … Read more

Sister Love

I am inadequate, but I am doing something right. Because these girls adore each other. Adore. Each. Other. They adore each other absolutely. Allie’s face lights up when Grace smiles at her. Grace lights up just to see her baby sister. Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. –Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NKJV

Things to Write Home About – 3/19/11

I am finding it increasingly difficult to write Things to Write Home About. It takes a lot of time. At any rate, I am moving it to Saturday because I have something else in store for you tomorrow (and future Sundays). Here are some of my favorite posts from the last couple of weeks: Homegrown: Parenting & Having Fun As A Family Nadene at Practical Pages explains how preschoolers can learn without formal school Jaimie at Two Chicks and a Hen shared a fingerknit headband that she says preschoolers can make with a little help I adore the Let’s Explore … Read more
