Kids Noisemaker Craft for New Year’s Eve

On Monday, I shared a really fun activity that guided our New Year’s Eve last year. In short, I wrote a bunch of activities on slips of paper, rolled them up, and stuffed them into balloons that the kids popped as the hours ticked by. One of the projects was to make noisemakers for midnight (which, incidentally, rolled around at 9pm). These noisemakers were quick and easy to make, and they used materials that we already had at home (mostly due to a lack of planning on my part). They cost pennies to make, too. Easy DIY Duct Tape Binoculars Made from Toilet Paper Tubes

Easy 5-minute Duct Tape Binoculars Made from Toilet Paper Rolls

We made this craft back in January, when we were watching birds at the feeder in front of our living room window. Allie thought it was so cool to have her own binoculars to stare at the birds fifteen feet away. She carried those binoculars around all the time, abusing them as any 3-year-old would. Thanks to the duct tape, they stayed together. They’re still around here somewhere even now, 7 months later. Materials: A heavy pair of scissors Two empty toilet paper tubes A roll or two of fancy duct tape – A note about the tape in the … Read more

Cross Resist Paintings for Preschoolers and Big Kids

How to do Cross Resist Paintings for Easter or any time of year

This is one of those projects that I’ve been meaning to do for a long time. We tried some resist painting using stickers a few months ago. It went well at first, but the stickers got too wet and let behind half of the sticker paper on the canvas. Someday, I’ll blog those pictures. The finished paintings look great, but the process was more difficult than I expected. Because we were making crosses this time (for Easter but really, is there a time of year when the cross is not timely and relevant?), I knew painter’s tape would work out … Read more

How to Make Marizpan Piggies for Good Luck

I created an elaborate New Year’s Eve experience for my kids, and they loved it. I had planned to do one fun thing every hour, and at midnight (which was really 9pm), we’d do some more special things. We didn’t get through the last third of the fun things because I didn’t want to speed them through the fun things. I wanted them to relax, have fun, and savor the things. One of the things I wanted to do (that we didn’t get to) was to make marzipan pigs, as they are a symbol of good luck in Germany. (Read all about … Read more

Valentine Suncatchers – Easy Tissue Paper Crafts for Kids

Finished suncatchers - Easy Valentine Suncatcher Crafts for Kids

You make a lot of heart crafts when you have two little girls. My girls just love hearts. They draw hearts and they cut hearts and the like to glue and paint hearts. Valentine’s Day is like our crafting heaven. This is the craft that kicked off our Valentine’s Day crafting, and I had actually forgotten all about it until I went looking for something in my photos. I was like, “Hey! Did I post that on my blog?!” and I came looking for it, and lo and behold, I had deprived you of it for a month. Sorry. Anyway, … Read more

Autumn Wreath Craft for Kids (Even Preschoolers!)

Autumn Wreath Craft for Kids (It's easy enough for preschoolers, too!)

I was wondering around the craft store few weeks ago, without my kids (which never happens!), when the fall flowers caught my eye. Each stem was 79¢, 99¢, or $1.29. I bet they’d be even cheaper now being that Thanksgiving merchandise is already on clearance. Because, you know, Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. So anyway, I was there and I thought all the flowers were pretty and that the girls would really like them. I bought an assortment, picked up wreath forms, and went happily home to help the girls make fall wreath crafts. I’m sure this is … Read more
