Autumn Wreath Craft for Kids (Even Preschoolers!)

Autumn Wreath Craft for Kids (It's easy enough for preschoolers, too!)

I was wondering around the craft store few weeks ago, without my kids (which never happens!), when the fall flowers caught my eye. Each stem was 79¢, 99¢, or $1.29. I bet they’d be even cheaper now being that Thanksgiving merchandise is already on clearance. Because, you know, Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. So anyway, I was there and I thought all the flowers were pretty and that the girls would really like them. I bought an assortment, picked up wreath forms, and went happily home to help the girls make fall wreath crafts. I’m sure this is … Read more

Glittered Acorn Craft for Kids

A few weeks ago, I posted a picture of glittered acorns and explained that we were in the middle of lots of projects, but that I simply hadn’t had the time to edit photos or post them. I don’t have any more free time now than then (do you?) but I did manage to get one of our projects (my favorite recent one!) written up to share. It’s good timing because I am starting to see the fall and Thanksgiving supplies go on clearance in the stores, so you should be able to do these crafts for cheap (that is, if … Read more

Easy Beaded Butterfly Craft

We keep a plastic grocery bag stuffed full of empty toilet paper rolls on the doorknob of the closet in our bathroom. Once, Joe threw the whole bag away, and I grumbled for days. He hasn’t made that mistake again. Because we have all the empty toilet paper rolls that we want, we make all kinds of toilet paper roll crafts. They’re convenient little recyclables. Back in March, Grace wrote a story about an orange and black butterfly. It is hanging in our art gallery, formerly known as the doors of the china cabinet. (Because of her difficulties with the physical … Read more

Rainbow Button Craft – An Easter Egg Craft

Rainbow Button Easter Egg Craft

Sometimes, when Grace and I are really lucky, Allie meanders down the steps after lunch, lays down on our overstuffed chair, and falls asleep. I say it happens only when we’re lucky because – although we love her madly – Allie can be a veritable distraction when Grace is trying to get her schoolwork done. She’s a little past the halfway point of first grade, and she is getting in to new topics, things she doesn’t already know. She needs to focus. I suppose you could argue that I need to do a better job of occupying Allie while Grace … Read more

Decorate for Spring with a Homemade Flower Garland

my homemade flower garland is all done

I’ve had enough snow for 2010, thankyouverymuch. It’s March. March means spring flowers, spring colors, spring weather. I’m ready for Easter eggs and Easter bunnies and Easter grass. I am pretending that it’s spring, even if the weather isn’t cooperating. We’re expecting more snow this week. I am celebrating pretending it’s spring with a with a homemade flower garland. I made it myself with minimal time and no expense whatsoever. I hung it in my big front window so that I can look at it often. Here’s what I did: Homemade Flower Garland for Springtime Decorating Materials Two pieces of … Read more
