We read a lot, a half hour or more pretty much every day. Our living room, family room, and bedrooms are all lined with shelves brimming with books. It boarders on hoarding. We’re book people. I have read just about every imaginable book to Grace – board books, picture books, biographies, chapter books, encyclopedias. There is nothing that Grace won’t sit and listen to. (Allie isn’t yet appreciating the art of cuddling and reading a book.) If you’re looking for something to read to your kids (or to have an older kid read to a younger one), choose … Read more
Oh, how I love spending time at Old Grandma’s house. While I was looking through the pictures I took there, I realized that there is nothing on earth quite like seeing my grandmother cuddle and love my children. Nothing can compare to this. Or to this. My heart smiles as big as they do. Old Grandma said to me yesterday, “Every one is different. Every baby is different; every person is different. You never know what they’ll grow up to be or do or like.” I know that to be true. Allie and Grace could not be more different. They … Read more
Allie has teeth, two of them so far. She’s been wanting to eat for a while now, so the teeth are a welcome development. She’s been showing teething signs since 11 weeks old, so we were ready for the teeth to erupt. I’m not sure when she got so grown up. She is so inquisitive. I can just see her mind working. Could she be any cuter?
Allie is quickly growing in a person. She has likes and dislikes. She interacts with us more and more, and she has discovered some of her toys. I took this picture one evening last week, and I marveled at her big eyes. They’re almost always open and looking. She’s an observer, that kid. I would love it if she learned to be a napper, but that doesn’t seem to be in her constitution. I remembered a photo I took of Grace around the same time, and I went looking for it. Being an overly anxious first time mother, I was … Read more
I am inadequate, but I am doing something right. Because these girls adore each other. Adore. Each. Other. They adore each other absolutely. Allie’s face lights up when Grace smiles at her. Grace lights up just to see her baby sister. Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. –Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NKJV
I am happy to announce that I am a Similac StrongMom Ambassador. I’m excited to represent the StrongMom app because it was exactly what we needed when we struggled with Allie’s growth during those early days. She didn’t gain weight at all for her first three weeks. It was a scary, exhausting, awful time – but I didn’t have to worry about writing down feedings or carrying around a notebook. I had Similac’s Strong Mom app. The app allowed me to enter my breastfeeding sessions, my bottle-feeding sessions, Allie’s wet and dirty diapers, and even the time she spent sleeping. … Read more
