Buffalo Cheese Ball featuring Simply Dressed by Marzetti

There are a few foods that I absolutely adore and can’t get enough of: feta cheese, buffalo chicken dip, bbq chicken enchiladas, watermelon jam, ice cream, the chocolate cake recipe I made for my dad’s birthday. Buffalo Cheese BallI agreed to review Marzetti’s new Simply Dressed line of refrigerated salad dressings because one of the flavors is Greek Feta. I thought (and still think) that it could be my new favorite salad dressing, but I didn’t get to try that one. Greek Feta is not carried in any grocery stores near me. I wish it was. Feta dressing on a salad topped with feta cheese would be pretty darn amazing. (Because you know that I top every salad I eat with feta cheese, right?) Hopefully some day. The only Simply Dressed flavors I could find locally were ranch, blue cheese, and coleslaw. I found them in the refrigerated section of the produce aisle, with the other Marzetti’s dressings and the bagged salad mix. When life gives you blue cheese, make buffalo something. That’s a real saying, right?

The Review

Marzetti’s Simple Dressed Blue Cheese Salad Dressing is nice. It has a good flavor and a nice consistency. It doesn’t contain anything awful – no preservatives, no trans fats, no high fructose corn syrup, no MSG, no artificial flavors, and no artificial colors, the bane of my personal existence since I’m allergic to red dye #40. I expect blue cheese dressing to be thick, almost like mayonnaise pouring out of a bottle. Isn’t that what all blue cheese dressing is supposed to be like? Simple Dressed Blue Cheese isn’t even close to being that thick, but I enjoyed it anyway. The flavor is very mild, almost like a blend of ranch flavors and blue cheese flavors. I really liked that.

Since we’ve agreed that the saying is, when life gives you blue cheese, make buffalo something, I used the blue cheese dressing to make this cheese ball:buffalo cheese ball

  1. In a medium bowl, mix the salad dressing, onion powder, garlic powder, and hot sauce so that it's well blended.
  2. If you've forgotten to leave the cream cheese out (like I do every single time I need softened cream cheese), microwave it for 30 seconds. That will soften it enough to use. Add it to the salad dressing and spices and blend.
  3. Add the cheddar cheese and mix it well.
  4. Dollop the cheese on a piece of plastic wrap, and use it to form a ball. Pretend you're making a snowball.
  5. Wrap the finished ball up and stick it in the refrigerator for a few hours to harden.
  6. Once the cheese is firm, unwrap the ball, and roll it in the pecans.

  1. hmmmm.. looks so yummy! I love dressings, any kind of dressing actually.. I’m fond of making dips on my food. I have lots of different brands in my cabinet. This dressings from Marzetti will surely be added in my list. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
