I recently bought a couple of new shirts. I had previously been using the fact that none of my shirts fit as weight loss motivation, but that wasn't working out as well as I hoped and I gave in to the temptation to buy bigger clothes. I now have 4 that fit well and look nice.

So I was at the park with the girls, rolling down the hill (not as fun as it was 30 years ago, I have to say). After a couple of times down the hill, we were all three covered in grass stains. I was bummed because I knew I would be down to only 3 nice shirts that fit.

    But!

The grass stains came out, thanks to some quick thinking and OxiClean Laundry Detergent, the premier solution to help remove all types of tough stains.

    How to Remove Clothing Stains

There are two tenets to remember when you are dealing with a stain:

    1. Don't do anything to make the stain worse.
    2. Treat it right away.

Don't do anything to make the stain worse.

Applying pressure to a stain will set the stain deeper into the fabric, maybe permanently. Don't rub or scrub a stain. Instead, dab it gently with paper towels or toilet paper to soak up any surface-level material.

If you apply heat to a stain, it will bond chemically with the fabric, and that means it's never coming out. Stay away from hot water, and be totally sure the stain is gone before you put the garment in the dryer.

    Treat the stain right away.

Time is important. The longer the stain sits on your clothing, the higher the likelihood that it will set into the fibers of the cloth. Begin to treat the stain immediately, even if only with plain water.

While you're still wearing the garment, soak the stain with lukewarm water. (I went into the bathroom at the park for this.) Apply the water from the back of the stain to push the stain out and off the fabric. Get it dripping wet and gently dab the top of the stain with a paper towel to remove any material pushed out by the water.

When you remove the garment, rewet the garment and sprinkle it with a generous amount of salt. The salt will absorb the residue, pulling it out of the cloth. Allow the wet, salty garment to sit for 15-20 minutes, then scrape off the excess salt and rinse with clear water.

Apply OxiClean Laundry Detergent to the back of the stain. Soak the stain with detergent and push the material up and out of the cloth.

Lay the stain face-down on a clean paper towel. You have to give the stain-causing material somewhere to go when the detergent pushes it out of the fabric. Allow the stain to sit for about an hour so that the detergent can work its magic. (But not so long that the detergent dries. Move on to the next step while it's still moist.)

Finally, wash the garment with OxiClean Laundry Detergent.

Check carefully for any hint of the stain before you dry the item. OxiClean almost always removes the stain after the first wash, but it's always good to double check to be sure.

What stains do you struggle with?

This post was sponsored by OxiClean through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write a post about OxiClean Laundry, all opinions are my own.

Please follow manufacturer directions for your garments. For best results, pretreat stains with laundry detergent, wait 5-10 minutes and then wash.
