Date Night Questions for Married Couples - These fun questions are great conversation starters. Ask and answer them or separate and write down your answers (but it's date night so don't separate). Includes free printable and ideas for using them.

Last month, I shared about date night ideas for Christmastime, and several of them are good for the whole winter or even the rest of the year. Go check those out because I wrote a lot of good stuff about why you should have dates with your spouse.

As I said in that post, Joe and I do have regular date nights, but what I didn't write is that we aren't very good at it. I see other wives who have all kinds of things to say to their husbands, and I wonder what Joe and I are doing wrong.

When we have a date night, we sit and eat.

    And look at each other.

    We smile.

    We look at our food.

    I'm not kidding.

It's comical and sad in a bless your heart kind of way. We sometimes laugh about not talking because we both find it funny and awkward, and neither of us really knows quite how to change it.

We don't want to talk about our kids because it's date night, and we always talk about our kids.

We don't want to talk about our jobs because they're not that exciting, and we always talk about our jobs.

We don't want to talk about our house or our schedules because we disagree and don't feel good when we talk about those things.

We don't want to talk about world events because we disagree politically, and neither of us wants to hear the other's (obviously misguided) opinion.

After kids and jobs and the house and our calendar and current events, what is left? Hopes and dreams? We've sort of been down that road before.

This has been bothering me for a while, and I have been puzzling how to fix it. I thought back to our dating days when we never seemed to run out of things to talk about.

But back then, we talked about our future together (kids) and our jobs.

    Back to that. HA!

Anyway, back then, we also had some books of questions that we liked to read through and talk about. We took them everywhere, and we did refer to the questions contained therein all the time. These are the books we had: (The first one, The Book of Questions, has been republished. This is a link to the newer version.)

I was thinking about those books, and I decided to come up with an interview of sorts that we could do on our next date night. It seemed like a good starting point that would at least get us warmed up a bit in the discussion department.

Tell me in the comments - do you ever find you have nothing to talk to your spouse about? Please tell me that I'm not the only one.
