The First Day of School featuring the MomAgenda School Years

Today was the first day of school in the school district we live in. It didn't affect us all that much, but I was most certainly aware of it. I am happily out of touch with school right now.MomAgenda School Years

With Grace turning 4 and beginning the homeschool process in earnest, I had been thinking about getting her a memory book related to school.

I'm one of those moms who has to have a memory book for everything. We have a memory book for birthday memories, and a memory book for wedding memories, and a memory book for baby shower memories. There is no end.

The School Years book fit right in.

When I received it, I was surprised at its size. I requested the larger of the two School Years books, and it is quite large, about 12 inches wide and 13 inches tall. Inside, fourteen expandable envelopes are spiral bound together. The envelopes are labeled pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, grade 1, and so on, up to grade 12.

The front of each envelope has space to attach Grace's picture, write her school and teacher (unimportant to us, unless we decide to name our homeschool or participate in a co-op), along with personal information like height and weight. On the back of the envelope, there are spaces to record friends, activities, sports, and special achievements. My favorite part is a line for the child's signature.

I can see myself someday scanning those signatures and putting them all together on one page some day. I can't wait to see how they change each year.

The envelopes will be a nice place to save stories and artwork and handwriting samples. My plan is to have her write something at the beginning and end of each school year to see how her skills have changed.

My only hesitation about the School Years book is its cost. In our current financial situation, I would not spend $32 plus shipping on a memory book, even if it's nice. When I was working, on the other hand, I would have purchased the School Years book without a second thought.

  1. I have kept all of the artwork from Madisynn’s first year of preschool! I just cant seem to part with it! This would be awesome to have!!

  2. I liked you on Facebook… I can’t believe I didn’t already like you on FB!
I am like you… i have a memory book for everything (and videos, but the videos aren’t always edited on time, per se)

  3. I have kept scrapbooks since my kids started school. I only keep a few pages each so we’re not overrun. I also use just a thick regular 3-ring notebook and scrapbook 8X11 to keep costs down. For the first few years, I put them in a black turtleneck for pictures so we could see how they grew. It worked and it’s so cool to see. I also take a picture of all their artwork and then put the ‘pictures’ on all one digital scrapbook page so they can see what they did all at once. The original art I try to rotate hanging up or keeping stored away.
