Popcorn & a Movie

This past Sunday morning, the stress of Grace's broken leg and the flooded family room and broken hot water tank hit me. Even though it was 10 in the morning and I'd had a good night's sleep, I was exhausted.

Drained.

Fatigued.

While Joe and Grace played, I took a nap on the couch.

I opened my eyes to this –

popcorn

Joe and Grace were taking in a movie, sharing a bowl of popcorn, and drinking strawberry banana juice.

The green bowl – my lettuce keeper – was full of popcorn. Grace was using a yellow wooden spoon, orange colander, and silver pot from her play kitchen to serve herself and her daddy.

My heart swelled.

It's not how I would have done things. I would have had pretty bowls. I would have served the snack. I would have held Grace in my lap so we could cuddle and chat about the movie.

It's not how I would have done it, but it worked for them.

And that's what made it so awesome.

  1. That is so sweet. I love it when I see things like that at our house. I am super sappy like that!

  2. That actually brought a happy tear to my eye. my hormones are acting up. BUT I didn’t really have a dad relationship like that so I love to see it. I thank God each day that I am so lucky for Elijah to grow up with Dave as a loving, caring father. Grace is so lucky to have Joe too. He’s such a great Dad. We are lucky ladies to have such perfect families! Things might have been bad lately, but the thing we always remember when we’re down on our luck is at least we have each other. Happy WW! Hopefully this week your luck is turning around! 🙂 ((hugs))

  5. Such a heartfelt post. As moms, I think we can all stand to let go sometimes. When I am not badgering my husband, things with my kids still seem to move along just fine too.

    Who would have thought? 🙂

  6. Thanks for reminding me that even though daughter and dad don’t do it the way mom might is not only okay, but a blessing.

  9. That is adorable. I try to remember that too when I catch super cute daddy daughter moments.. even though it may not be how we would do things.. it can still work.
