I Fell Off the Wagon
This is a compensated review from BlogHer and EA Sports Active for the Wii
Every time someone who’s overweight says they’re going to exercise and get healthy, I say a little prayer for them. I so hope it goes well for them.
Statistics say that it doesn’t usually go well, so I know they need all the help they can get.
I fell off the wagon after only a few days of using my EA Sports Active.
It wasn’t entirely my fault.
It never is, right?
I pushed my injured body too hard. My muscles were sore, more sore than my aching back could tolerate. I took off an extra day, and then two.
And then the specialist treating my back injuries scheduled a procedure that he thought would bring me a lot of relief. The only catch? I had to go off all of my NSAIDs and pain relievers for a week before the appointment.
I couldn’t exercise with the level of back pain I had. I just couldn’t do it.
The procedure was brutal, and I had trouble for a day or two afterward, but it did bring me relief soon after that. With my doctor’s blessing, I’m getting back in the proverbial saddle.
Given the way the EA Sports Active is set up, I have two options:
- Delete my old profile and start over with the 30 day challenge, beginning again at Day 1.
- Start where my original 30 day challenge is now, having missed a big chunk in the middle.
What would you have done?
Only one of those options made any sense to me at all, and that is to start over. I deleted my old profile, lied about my weight again, and gave Day One another go ’round.
I’m sweaty. I’m tired. And I’m ready to do it all again tomorrow.
Edited to add (6/12):
I feel like a real doofus now. I created an all new profile to start over… and then realized that EA Sports Active doesn’t go on without you!
I’m even more impressed than ever. I went into my old profile out of curiosity, and the game let me pick up right where I stopped. It charted extra rest days, but it kept track of where I’m at. I reset my goals, and started right back up.
So… I did an extra Day One workout, but I’m now back on track.

Don’t beat yourself up. You listened to your body and the doctor. The amazing thing about EA Sports Active is the flexibility to work with injuries. I am right in the middle of my 30 Day Challenge and love it. Hopefully you will start to get more relief and get back on track when your body is ready.
